St Michael’s International Mass – Sunday 27 September

This Sunday we celebrate the diversity of nationalities in our own parish, when representatives of many countries will take a special part in the Mass. We will hear readings and prayers spoken in different languages, pray the Lord’s Prayer all together, and after the Mass, have a chance to sample some different cuisine from the International Buffet in the parish room. Do be sure to join us.

St Michael’s Youth Group camp-out!

Last Friday saw 13 young people camp out in St Michael’s parish garden. The weather held good for the BBQ and Rounders match. Then with almost all the marshmallows toasted, thunder and lightening threatened, sending everyone heading for a solid roof, but all eventually braved the elements. By 8am Saturday morning the waterslide was back in action! It was great to celebrate the completion of the first year of St Michael’s Youth Group. Their next residential is a Deanery Advent Retreat at Brownshill Monastery, which being December, will definitely not be in tents!

St Michael’s BBQ / Fun Day – A great day!

Sunday 5 July saw the sun shine for long enough for all to enjoy a fun-filled day in our wonderful parish garden!  The aroma of the BBQ filled the air.  No-one could have left hungry, with the array of food provided.

The Bouncy Castle and water slide were kept busy, although by 2pm when the rain did eventually fall the bouncing was a little less vigorous! But undeterred, everyone took cover from the elements in the parish room.  A lovely day was had by all.

Missio Campaign to empty unopened boxes

More than just a Red Box

Many members of our community have a Red Box in their homes.  It’s a way we support the Pope’s official charity for overseas mission and the Mill Hill Missionaries, Britain’s own missionary society.  Thank you to everyone who is a Red Box member.

Missio are holding a special collection for those whose Red Box may not have been opened for a while.  Maybe it’s lurking on top of the fridge, or behind some books.  If so, please bring it to Mass over the weekends of June 21st and 27th, and we will empty it.  If you have any questions, contact Local Secretary, Jacky Tucker at

Skydiving reindeer helps finance new Shepton Mallet website!

Pentecost Sunday saw the launch of St. Michael’s brand new website which has been developed with Clifton DioceseShepton 1Achieving the fundraising target for this project was a true community effort with both St Michael’s and our sister parish, St Mary’s Glastonbury, generously sponsoring my skydive dressed as a reindeer!  Through this support we exceeded our target, reaching a little over £1000.  Huge thanks must go to everyone for making my 120mph descent worth the grey hairs!

The new website will enable us to reach out to all and to share what is happening at St. Michael’s both with our parish, as well as the wider community.
